How To Use The Peak Productivity PARA Method In 60 Seconds

How To Use The Peak Productivity PARA Method In 60 Seconds

January 13, 20243 min read

Hey,

Today I'm showing you how to set up the PARA Method for peak productivity in just 60 seconds.

Imagine the peace you would feel when opening your computer to find nothing but the wallpaper image of your choice (mine's a pic of Bryce Canyon, Utah. I miss UT).

No files, folders, open applications or tabs cluttering your view.

Just the simple blank canvas ready for you to do your best work.

Better yet, imagine the clarity you'd feel when opening your note taking app and seeing your next tasks, and current projects carefully laid out with all other distractions hidden from view.

This has been my experience since implementing Tiago Forte's 'PARA Method' and 'Building A Second Brain', productivity methodologies.

But it hasn't always been like this.

You see, over the past few years (since having kids) my organization has been a mess.

Sure I've got important things done but I've never really felt in control or on top of it all.

Many things have fallen through the cracks leading to disappointments from my team, family and worse, myself.

Can you relate?

That's why we're focusing on optimizing your organization and productivity systems so you can grow your business faster without burnout!

The first step is implementing the PARA Method.

(PARA— stands for Projects, Areas, Resources, and Archives.)

Here's how to get started with Tiago Forte's system in 60 seconds!

Step 1: Archive all your existing files

Listen, your current system of files and folders is probably a mess. Do yourself a favor and put them all in 1 folder labelled ARCHIVES with today's date.

This will probably put the fear of God in you but relax. You're not deleting them, just putting them in cold storage so you can set up your new efficient productivity system.

You can find them all in by using search any way.

Step 2: Create Project Folders (no more than 10-15)
Brainstorm a list of all of your current projects, business and personal.

You'll probably find you have tons of projects going on. Once you've exhausted your memory, check you calendar, notes, emails and Slack messages for more.

Prioritize them until you only have 10-15 current projects in your life. Anymore and you're likely to be overwhelmed while making little progress.

For the others...

Step 3: Create additional folders as needed.

Move the other projects into Areas, Resources or Archives folders.

As a reminder, AREAS are the cornerstones of your success—the ongoing aspects of your life and business that demand your regular attention.

We're talking about your personal development, your team's performance, your financial health.

These aren't one-and-done tasks; they're the parts of your life you're committed to nurturing constantly.

Resources are where you store the fuel for your entrepreneurial fire—the articles, the notes, the ideas.

Resources are not immediately actionable, but they're invaluable for supporting your projects and maintaining your areas.

A well-managed resource bank is like having a 'second brain'—ready to serve you the right information at the right time.

Archives are where completed projects and outdated resources go to rest, allowing you to focus on the present without distraction.

Here's what my Evernote PARA set up looks like..

Now you're up to speed on the PARA Method, tomorrow we'll cover Tiago's Magnum Opus, How To Build A Second Brain (BASB).

Building a second brain is essentially building a digital brain that virtually allows you to become a productivity cyborg.

Having a second brain is an outsized advantage on all of your business competitors. It's literally using AI to supercharge your own brain!
